FLYFISHWALES VIEWPOINT

This fishery is particular favourite of mine being so close to Cardiff where I work. It is set right in the country with the distant rumble of traffic on the M4 motorway. It can be prone to the welsh weather as it is in such an open position but when conditions are right it is perfect. Casting is easy as most of the lake is accessed by pontoons which are very nicely spaced around the lake. You don't get the feeling that you're too close to a fellow fisherman even if they are on the next platform. Water is deepest to the right hand side of the lake as you look out of the Lodge windows. I'm not sure how deep but when fishing a fast sink line its only very occasionally that you hit bottom and snag weeds etc. Fly life is abundant and the trout make it known by taking from the surface with great swirls and making the surface boil from time to time. I am very impressed with the standard and size of the trout that I have caught from here and they are always fully finned and good fighters, quite the best I have hooked only just beaten by Trout from neighbouring Peterson Trout Lakes at Castleton. Facilities are excellent and I can thoroughly recommend the food and the price is very reasonable for such big portions. If you are a beginner then tuition is available on a one to one basis as and when needed and there is even no need to bring a rod as it is all supplied. A wide selection of flies are available for purchase and out of experience they do work!. Looking through Trout Fisherman Magazine UK I can see that trout as much as 13lb are coming out as what seems like a regular basis and hence I can highly recommend this as a must to visit if you are in the South Wales area.
