Tal-y-llyn Lake deep in the fold of dramatic, steep-sided mountains. The 222-Ty'n-y-Cornel Hotel on the Shore of Tal-y-llynacre lake is more than a scenic asset: the hotel owns the lake, which is noted for its superb fishing. Ty'n-y-Cornel is a true country - as opposed to country house - hotel and was a well-known fishing hotel as early as 1800. Guests enjoy priority access to Talyllyn's prized waters together with excellent river fishing.

Tal-y-Llyn lake is arguably the loveliest lake in Wales and no visit to the Tywyn View from Pen-Y-Bont Hotel overlooking Tal-Y-Llynarea would be complete without experiencing its idyllic setting of serene beauty. It shelters beneath the green foothills and rocky scree slopes of Cadair Idris and gives its name to the valley that runs south-westwards towards Tywyn which was scooped into its present emphatic shape by glaciers during the Ice Age. The lake, surprisingly shallow and edged by reeds, is well known for its sizable trout. The lovely Tal-y-Llyn is indeed a photographer's paradise. Boating and fishing facilities are available and you could even get a meal and a drink in one of the two hotels on its shore.

To date this is one of the lake's in Wales that I would love to fish but as yet I've only visited and passed through the area from Tywyn to Dolgellau. There are so many nooks and crannies around the lake and with every corner you turn lies a fantastic fishing opportunity to catch one of Tal-Y-Llyn's superb Trout. A glance through the fishing book in Ty'n-y-Cornel hotel tells a story of how the lake fishes throughout the season and boy does it fish well. The last time I drove past the lake some fishermen were landing their boat and coming ashore with what looked like very heavy limit bags. Their smiles told their story!. Wind lane appear very frequently as the wind howls down from the pass at the far end of the lake. These would be my casting area as they seem to be teeming with fishing rising and boiling on the surface. An olive buzzer just suspended below the surface would do the trick!. I hope this has whetted your appetite and if you're in the area then please cast your line here and I think you'd be pleasantly surprised!.
